Last month, I celebrated my blog’s first anniversary. I still can’t believe it has been a year. Many people will argue that starting a blog is so easy, but I can’t seem to wrap that idea completely in my head. When I entered the blogging world, I had no idea what I was doing. So I guess that’s the reason why I’m not 100% convinced that starting a blog is easy.
Maybe if I did my research well enough, I wouldn’t have moments where I felt overwhelmed. But, you can’t really learn everything until you try it yourself. Have you ever wanted to start a blog but don’t know where to start? Today I’ll talk about what you need to know before starting a blog.
What is your goal
Everyone has their own goal and their own reason why they want to start a blog. It can be because they want a creative outlet for their style, or they want to start a business. So before starting a blog, you have to make sure that your goal is clear. Write down your main goal, why you want to start a blog. What would you like to achieve from blogging, and write down clear expectations of what you want to achieve.
It’s a lot of work
This is one of the main things that you have to be prepared for. You basically have to do everything, unless of course you have someone to help you. Starting a blog means you’re the writer, the editor, the photographer, and so on. So be prepared to work A LOT.
One of the major key aspects to make sure that you’re on top of everything is by planning ahead of time. Don’t wait until your blog is live to plan ideas on what to post. Make sure to write as many ideas as you can that are related to your niche. A couple month’s worth of ideas will help you in a long run.
It is so easy to be overwhelmed by the amount of work you have to do. Especially since blogging takes up a lot of your time, and energy. When you start a blog like me who doesn’t know anything about blogging, all information that you see online can be very overwhelming.
Blogging can be physically and mentally draining. So I always tell my readers to remember to take a break. Planning your blog from the beginning can be really exhausting. So remember to take as much-needed rest as possible. Don’t stay up too late working on content for your blog, as this would not do good for you and your blog.
Blogging is not a competition
Erase that mindset that blogging is a competition, and remember that you’ll be entering an amazing community. Many bloggers think that when you start a blog you have to compete with other bloggers to be successful. But in reality, other bloggers can lead you to that success that you want to achieve. When I first started blogging, I was a little hesitant to ask other bloggers anything about blogging. But I find that the more questions I ask, the more it helps me on this journey. Oh, and you get to meet such wonderful people who can turn into such amazing friends.
Success in blogging does not come overnight. It takes a lot of patience and effort. So it is very important to keep an open mind in learning new things everyday.
