My friends often ask me how I manage my blog, despite having a day job, and school. Last semester I had the most hectic schedule. But over time I learned to balance work, school and my side hustle. For those of you who don’t know, I have been blogging for almost a year now. On top of that, I have a day job, and I am at school too. At first it was overwhelming, especially during the first few months of blogging, where I didn’t know what the heck I was doing. There were moments where I thought of quitting this side hustle of mine, but I’m glad I didn’t.
So how exactly did I manage to balance all that, you might ask? Here are some ways I’m currently doing to stay on top of everything.
I suck at using planners, I don’t usually write anything on them. But tell you this, your planners will be your best friend if you want to be able to balance your work and your side hustle. First write down all our appointments and all important events and tasks with their due date. Then plan blog posts and Instagram posts for the whole month. Scatter blog post ideas all over your calendar, but make sure to leave any room for changes. Write a daily to-do checklist, putting priorities on top of the list.
Work on your free time
Whenever you have a spare time, try to squeeze in small tasks for your blog. If you have a free 30 mins, try to reply to emails, engage with fellow bloggers, or even list down some ideas for the blog. This will help you cross off things on your to do list, making room for another task to be done.
Work ahead of time
I’ve always been the one who procrastinate a lot. I can say that doing everything last-minute is my forte. Hahaha. But over time, I learned that starting tasks early, helps you save time and helps you be more organized. If you start procrastinating, your work/tasks will build up, which can overwhelm you, making you want to quit. So be smart and start your work as early as possible, and this will help you in the long run.
Don’t forget to have a ‘ME’ time
Trying to finish all the tasks in one seating is great, but don’t forget to take a break, and have a “ME” time. Balancing work and side hustle can be overwhelming, so if you don’t take time to sit down, and just relax without having to work you’ll eventually feel drained and you’ll probably lose motivation to continue this side hustle that you have been so passionate about. I know I said earlier that if you have free time, use that to work on your side hustle. But it’s important to have one whole free day to spend to yourself or your family and friends. Whether it’s a spa day, shopping or a movie with friends, or being alone reading a book, it’s important to take a break.
